Week of March 29-April 2

This week we will be looking at North Africa and Southwest Asia. And spending significant time discussing the 3 main religions that came from this area. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

There will be a worksheet on Monday that we will go through on Tuesday. We will then watch a video on Jerusalem on Wednesday and Thursday.

There is no school this coming Friday and next Monday due to the Easter Holiday.

We will start off today by watching Channel 1 News.

We will be finishing Europe and beginning The Middle East by working on the Unit 5 Atlas which will be due tomorrow.

This is the last week of the 3rd quarter all late work will need to be turned in by Wednesday as I will be gone on Thursday and Friday.

Today we'll be going to the computer lab to take an online test on European Countries. When we are done with that we will be researching different countries of Europe and answering questions about them.

On Friday we will be registering for classes so make sure you bring your registration materials.

Monday February 22

This is a short week due to Parent/Teacher conferences and Snow Days on Wednesday. Times for conferences are Monday from 4:00 until 7:30. And Thursday from 8:00-11:00, 12:00-4:00, and 5:00-7:30. I hope to see as many parents there as possible.

Today we will watch Channel 1 News and talk about the Olympics. You will also get a map of Europe which will be due on Wednesday. You will also get a grade sheet to take home for an assignment to let your parents know there are conferences. That needs to be turned in by Wednesday.

Tuesday the plan is to continue discussing the Olympics, where the different sports came from and why certain countries win more medals in certain events.

Wednesday is Snow Days so we will have a shortened schedule, so we'll finish with any Olympic talk that we need to finish up with. We will do a Geography Skills Activity and any extra time you can finish up your Europe Maps.

Mr. Lutovsky will be in all day to discuss registration for 9th grade next year. Please parents and kids talk about registration and plan out not only your freshman year but also get an idea of what classes you want to take throughout high school.

Tomorrow we will have a test on Latin American countries on the computer. I encourage you to study using the map games listed in the right hand column.

Happy Olympics day.

Today we'll be finishing up our research on the different Olympic sports. If you are done with that you can start working on the Unit 4 Atlas which deals with Europe. That will be due on Thursday of next week.

A little heads up for next week: There is no school on Monday for Presidents day. On Tuesday Mr. Lutovsky will be coming in to discuss registration with you. There will be a packet of information going home so parents be on the lookout for that. On Wednesday we have the computer lab signed out so we will be checking up on our Olympic countries. Thursday we will correct the Unit 4 Atlas. And on Friday we will watch a video on Europe.

I'm gone for today but we'll be in the computer lab Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We'll be researching a culture group for Latin America. And when you finish that we'll be doing research on the Olympics. The worksheets for the research were handed out on Monday so you'll be working with your groups to complete the research.

We will be correcting in class the Chapter 7 Supplemental Questions that were assigned last week. We will then watch a short video on Brazil to give the kids an idea of what the land and the people are like in this South American Country.

Wednesday February 3

We will finish the live action video called Slave Ship. We will discuss it as a class and then finish our discussion on Chapter 7 Notes.

Tuesday February 2

We'll watch the first part of the video Slave Ship which is a live action recreation of conditions on Slave Ships coming from Africa to the America's. It also tells the story of the Amistad and how slaves were able to win their freedom through the court system.

We will then discuss Slave Ship and continue our discussion on Chapter 7.

After that we will be learning how to right down information based on the Incan tool the Quipu.

And finally we will be Discussing the notes from Chapter 7 that the kids were supposed to do over the weekend.

Today we will be correcting a worksheet on Chapter 6, that was assigned on Tuesday. After that we will be starting on Chapter 7 which is about Mexico. We will begin by having a Note worksheet on Chapter 7. This will be do on Monday Febuary 1st.

Today is a 3W day. We'll start off by watching the first part of Channel 1 news for an update on Haiti. We'll then watch a 15 minute video on the ancient civilizations of Mexico.

All students got a grade printout yesterday in class. They are encouraged if they are behind in a class to stay after school tomorrow to get caught up. Or to come in on Friday when there is no school for students but teachers will be at school.
